Clearly this is not a substitute for face to face contact which is an important part of the therapeutic relationship. However in these challenging times it is an alternative that can still offer support.
Do you feel sometimes that you are going round in circles? It can often be a struggle to make sense of painful experiences and find joy and meaning in life. I offer a safe space for you to explore difficult feelings with a genuine willingness to be there for you.
My name is Michelle Oakman. I am an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor working with individuals and couples in North Bath and Central Bristol. I have long term experience of working with a wide range of concerns including childhood and adult abuse, depression, anxiety, addiction and struggles with self identity.
Short term psychotherapy or counselling will help you start to make sense of specific issues and facilitate change.
Long term psychotherapy will enable you to go deeper. In having more understanding and containment of emotional problems, there is an opportunity to grow and feel an enhanced sense of wellbeing. I trained as an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor and have a variety of approaches that can support you to reach a clearer sense of how you want to move forward.
If you decide to see me for an initial session we would explore, at your own pace, what you feel has been holding you back or causing distress.
Sometimes it is difficult to know, beyond a sense of inner discomfort what is at the root of your struggles. The process of verbalising and sharing challenging feelings in a secure enviroment is the start to having more power in understanding and working with them because at last they are being heard.
You may wish to go away and think about what has come up for you before you want to commit to psychotherapy or counselling.
If you do wish to go ahead, a regular time of the week would be agreed between us.
